Game 1 – St. George Illawarra Dragons vs New Zealand Warriors, Friday 23rd June, 8pm
All eyes will be on Ben Hunt – who by the way did not make one single run in Origin the other night – in this one. Is he on a go slow? Without him, the Dragons are a lost cause and even with him, I like the 2023 Warriors here. Warriors to cover the start.
Game 2 – Dolphins vs Parramatta Eels, Saturday 24th June, 3pm
The Dolphins have hit the wall in recent weeks and Origin hasn’t made their task any easier, although their try scoring star ‘The Hammer’ seems to have got out unscathed. Mitchell Moses did little in Origin, but I think this game will be more to his liking – Eels by 1 to 12.
Game 3 – Penrith Panthers vs Newcastle Knights, Saturday 24th June, 5.30pm
Ivan Cleary is likely to restrict his Origin men to light duties in this one – which is fortunate for the out of form Knights. Even so, the Panthers should be too strong at home, and I like a Brian To’o anytime try – he got few chances in Origin but still made plenty of yards and is deadly near the try line.
Game 4 – Melbourne Storm vs Manly Sea Eagles, Saturday 24th June, 7.35pm
Manly have beaten poor teams but have been disappointing against strong sides this year and I can only see this trend continuing in Melbourne. Let’s be a bit daring and take Will Warbrick for first try scorer – he is running red hot, and they play to his wing.
Game 5 – Brisbane Broncos vs Gold Coast Titans, Sunday 25th June, 2pm
The Broncos are having a great year and their Origin stars all looked good the other night and should back up. The Titans always lift for their derby, but the Broncos have too much class and fire power not to take the points. At home with Adam Reynolds calling the shots, I can see a Broncos 13+ result.
Game 6 – South Sydney Rabbitohs vs North Queensland Cowboys, Sunday 25th June, 4.05pm
This shapes up as the game of the round with both teams full of stars and try scoring ability. The return of Cody Walker will boost Souths’ point scoring. With the pace and line-breaking ability of the two teams and their key players, I think ‘OVERS’ is a special here.
Game 7 – Sydney Roosters vs Canberra Raiders, Sunday 25th June, 6.15pm
The Roosters must have watched Lindsay Collins rip and tear for QLD the other night and wonder why he hasn’t been doing it for them in many games this season. Losing Luke Keary is a big blow and I think they will struggle to make the Finals from here. The Raiders have been up and down but have the talent to take this one – Canberra with the start.
